(sonnet 1) Karuṇā

by Ron Riekki

Sudden enlightenment, her body

is art, a lord-of-bliss height where

she, in her history, has seduced

the world and we are speechless,

words lost, found in her daylight-

eyes, back-and-froth, voice like

ice-kiss, she sweeps me, a sort

of soft obsession, this wish to

have her morning-noon-night,

pure prurient goddess, her ver-

milion vocal cords, how hard

it is to word this, how hard it

is. Oh, to be touched by her

voice. I vouch: she’s goddess.
